Career possibilities

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2006), "employers seek college graduates who have majored in human resources, human resource administration, or industrial and labor relations.  Other employers look for college graduates with a technical or business background or a well-rounded liberal arts education.  In addition, overall employment of human resources, training, and labor relations managers and specialists is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2014" (Occupational Outlook Handbook, U.S. Department of Labor).

A graduate in this major can expect to earn an average of $36,967; however, with experience and a record of accomplishment, the salary range is much higher. (National Association of Colleges and Employers, 2005).  For example, "the average salary for human resource managers employed by the Federal Government was $71,232 in 2005, and for labor relations specialists it is $93,895" (Occupational Outlook Handbook, U.S. Department of Labor).
