Transition to Teaching / Accelerated Licensure

Students who have already obtained a degree may pursue teacher licensure only by completing the shorter but more intensive route to licensure, Transition to Teaching/Accelerated Licensure Program. The Transition to Teaching/Accelerated Program is available in the following areas:

Requirements

Admission to the Transition to Teaching Middle School/Junior High and High School Education Programs requires an undergraduate degree in the content area the candidate intends to teach. Admission to the Transition to Teaching Kindergarten-Elementary Education program; the Elementary Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention; or the MS/HS Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention program requires an undergraduate degree in any area.

Additional Transition to Teaching /Accelerated Licensure Program admission criteria include:

  • 3.0 undergraduate G.P.A., or 2.5 G.P.A. with five years of applicable full-time professional experience, or a master's degree
  • excellent writing skills
  • Indiana passing scores on PRAXIS I Reading (176), Writing (172), and Mathematics (175) tests
  • Indiana passing scores on PRAXIS II subject area tests (middle school/junior high and high school education applicants only)
  • professional recommendations (3)
  • criminal history check
