Big second half propels Lindenwood-Belleville over Pomeroys
Jan. 11, 2013
Whitney Allen's career- and game-high 30 points weren’t enough to carry the Pomeroy basketball team in a 111-91 road loss to USCAA No. 2 ranked Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday night.
The Lynx were able to outscore the Pomeroys by twenty in the second half after a knee injury took out leading scorer Brittney Shaner with 16 minutes left to go. The Pomeroys, down by 15 at one point in the first half, were able to battle back and went into halftime tied at 54.
Lindenwood-Belleville had 18 steals in the game and forced SMWC into 28 total turnovers. The Lynx also assisted in 27 of their 43 field goals in comparison to only 11 assists on 29 field goals for the Pomeroys.
Shaner was limited to only 11 points in 12 minutes of action. Alaura McKemie provided 13 points off the bench and was the only other Pomeroy in double figures. Both Chelsea Weaver and Brandi McDaniel finished with nine points apiece. Due to injuries, the Pomeroys were also without the services of Sierra Lopez and Mikayla Metheny.
The Lynx were able to put four players in double figures, leading with Brooke Dunning’s 22 points. Behind Dunning was Breana McCullough with 21 points, Stephanie Cathcart added 15, and Taivia Knight finished with 14 and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Pomeroys will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Oakland City University on Friday, Jan. 18. It will be the second of a six game road trip for SMWC. Game time is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (EST) start.
