Ice-cold shooting dooms Pomeroys against Fontbonne

St. Louis, Mo. – The SMWC basketball team’s bid to win its third straight game came to end on Saturday afternoon with a 108-57 defeat to the Griffins of Fontbonne University.
The hosts were able to jump out to a quick start, going on a 10-0 run in the first few minutes of the game. From there, Fontbonne took complete control of the game as they shot 50% from the field in the first half. The Pomeroys struggled to hit shots themselves and found themselves down 61-21 at halftime.
SMWC shot better in the second half, but was still unable to make the game close as the Griffins continued to shoot well as a team. The Pomeroys had their worst shooting game of the season, hitting only 2 three-point shots and shooting 23.9% from the field for the game. Fontbonne shot 47.7% from the field for the game and had 31 more rebounds than SMWC.
The Pomeroys were led by Sierra Lopez who had 12 points on the afternoon. She was the only Pomeroy player to score in double figures. Kennedy Nelson finished with 9 points and Alaura McKemi had 8 points for SMWC.
Fontbonne had three players in double figures and was led by Amber Bruno who finished with 12 points. Alaina Bisch chipped in 11 points and Nicole Joerger tallied 10 points for the Griffins.
The Pomeroys are now 3-3 on the season and will play its next game at home on Tuesday night against Principia College. Game-time is set for a 6 p.m. start and will be played at the Clinton Recreation Center in Clinton, Ind.
