Pomeroys victorious over Andrews University

Clinton, Ind. – Six Pomeroy players scored in double figures and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team won a decisive 83-24 victory over the visiting Cardinals of Andrews University on Sunday afternoon.
To open the game, the Pomeroys would go on a 28-2 run within the first 10 minutes of the first half. For the remainder of the half, SMWC would nurse its lead and went into halftime with a comfortable 40-14 advantage.
In the second half, the Pomeroys would hold the Cardinals to only 10 points on 14% shooting from the field. SMWC put up 43 total points and shot 62% from the field in the half.
Statistically for the game, the Pomeroys won the battle of the boards (43-26), led in steals (21-8), and forced Andrews into 40 turnovers. The Pomeroys also finished the game shooting 48% from the field (36-of-74) compared to Andrews who shot 22% (9-of-40).
The Pomeroys were led by Ja’Breena Gardner who scored a game-high 16 points. She also finished with a game-high nine steals and eight assists for SMWC. Chelsea Weaver had a game-high eight rebounds and finished with 13 points. Hailee Rittinger scored 14 points and Mikayla Kinneer, Sierra Lopez, and Madeline Pea each chipped in 11 point performances for the Pomeroys.
Andrews was led by Maria Brandt who scored eight points on the afternoon.
With the win, the Pomeroys improve to 7-12 on the season. Andrews drops to 4-15. The Pomeroys will play its next game on the road when they travel to Springfield, Ill. in a matchup with Robert Morris-Springfield. This will mark the second meeting between the two schools with Robert Morris winning the first matchup 106-96 back on Jan. 4 The game will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (EST) start.
