Owensboro, Ky. –  Na-Shaunda Rayford’s game-winning basket with .8 seconds left gave the visiting Pomeroy basketball team a thrilling 105-103 victory over Brescia University on Wednesday night.

The Lady Bearcats led early in the first half, increasing their lead to double-digits midway through the first stanza.  However, the Pomeroys would not let down, clawing back to within three points at the 7:19 mark.  At intermission, the hosts held a slim 47-42 lead.

The second half is when the game became exciting as both teams shot well from the field.  In a tightly contested affair, the game came down to the final few seconds.  With the game tied at 103, Rayford’s bucket as she drove to the basket put the Pomeroys up by two with .8 seconds left.  Brescia had one last attempt as Morgan Wimberg’s half-court shot as time expired bounced off the rim, giving the Pomeroys the victory.

SMWC was led by Ja’Breena Gardner who scored a season and career-high 23 points.  She was 5-of-9 from three-point range and also registered a team-high 4 assists and 4 steals in the game.  Three other Pomeroys were also able to score in double figures.  Kennedy Nelson recorded a season and career-high 17 points.  Chelsea Weaver tallied a season-best 14 points and Mikayla Metheny finished with 13 points.
