Pomeroys compete at meet named after fallen runner

Wilmington, Ohio. – The SMWC cross country team took part in a 34 team field at the newly named #JennaStrong Fall Classic in Wilmington on Friday. The race was named in memory of Wilmington College cross country runner Jenna Parlette, who collapsed during a race on Aug. 31st and passed away three days later. At an emotional event for many who participated in the five-kilometer race, SMWC finished in 29th place as a team.
Logan Fry was the top runner for the Pomeroys, crossing the finish line at the 20:14 mark. She finished in 104th place out of 398 runners. Freshman Sarah Wichman ran a strong race, finishing behind Fry with a time of 21:45. Erin Harnett (22:01), Corianna Frederick (22:36), Sarah Hudson (22:36), and Stephanie Garringer (26:23) also ran well and crossed the finish line at their respective times.
The Pomeroy cross country team will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Saint Louis, Mo. and race in a five-kilometer meet hosted by the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. The women’s race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
