SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Athletic Director Deanna Bradley has announced the hiring of Ian Garner as the department’s Director of Sports Information and Intramurals.
Garner will serve as the primary media contact for all eight of SMWC’s varsity sports, while also overseeing the SMWC intramural program. He comes to SMWC after spending the past two years as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant at Marian University in Indianapolis, Ind.
“We are extremely excited to have Ian as a full time addition to the SMWC Athletic Department,” said Athletic Director Deanna Bradley. “With the completion of our new facility, our goal was to hire someone who could assist in propelling the athletic department to the next level quickly in the Sports Information arena, as well as implement our new intramural programs. We are confident in Ian’s ability to accomplish these goals and the entire department is looking forward to working with him.”
While at Marian University, Garner produced game notes, graphics, videos, and game recaps for Marian’s varsity sports. He also assisted in the exponential growth of Marian’s social media platforms. In his final year at Marian University, he served as the primary contact for women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, softball, and men’s and women’s track and field.
Prior to his time as a graduate assistant, he spent four years as a student assistant in Marian’s Sports Information Department. Garner’s other experiences also include internships with the Indiana Pacers, U/S Sports Advisors, and Lammi Sports Management. During these experiences, he worked in corporate partnerships, marketing, and event management.
“I’m excited to join the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Athletic Department,” said Garner. “SMWC Athletics is growing, and I am excited to come here and make a positive impact on the Athletic Department, the student athletes, and the institution as a whole.”
Garner earned his B.S. in Business Management with concentrations in Sports Marketing and Human Resources from Marian University in 2012. After graduating from Marian, he was accepted into the Athletic Administration program at Indiana University, where he earned his M.S. this past spring.
