Update #8: Lindenwood-Belleville

September 29, 2012

It was a beautiful, sunny Homecoming day for the Pomeroys’ match against USCAA rival Lindenwood-Belleville today, but another tough day for the Woodsies on the field. Though doubling the Lynx’s possession in the second half, the Pomeroys could only manage two goals and fell 5-2 by the final whistle.

The Lynx got away to a 3-1 lead at halftime, on three unassisted goals from Leigha Greg, Kayla Thomas, and Makis Gomez. The lone Pomeroy goal came on a through ball from Sam Morrison to Amanda Loebker for the score.

The second half saw the Pomeroys take control of midfield and press into the attacking third 21 times, only to come away without a goal until late in the half. It was another masterful game for the hard-working Julie Debish at midfield, covering large parts of the field and keeping Pomeroy possession alive and flowing. Five minutes into the half, though, Makis Gomez was able to serve a ball from the left across in front of goal which eluded everyone in the box and found the Lynx’s Jessica Bauer alone just past the far post to knock it in for a 4-1 lead. The Lynx added one more from Danielle Mertzke in the middle of the half. With five minutes to play, Amanda Loebker turned from far out on the right side and hit a long soaring left footer over the Lynx keeper for the second and final Pomeroy goal.
