Navarra signs letter of intent with SMWC
May 20, 2013
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is proud to announce a new addition to the Pomeroy soccer team. On Monday, May 20, Cami Navarra of Warren Central High School signed a letter of intent to accept a soccer scholarship with the Pomeroys for the 2013 season.
Navarra was a key player for all four years for the Warriors, playing both as a forward and as an outside defender, where she distinguished herself in the last two seasons. She topped the goal-scorers at Warren Central as a freshman before eventually moving to the defense, where she still had the speed and mobility to score three goals in her senior season. She was named All-County and All-Conference in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) in both her sophomore and senior years, joining new Pomeroy Jordan Bray as a second All-MIC selection to choose The Woods. She was also named to play in the Indiana All-Star Classic in June. Just as importantly, Navarra is the kind of student who has consistently challenged herself with college-prep courses and is expected to be a great addition to the incoming class.
Warrior mentor Gary Roberts has high praise for her abilities, both for her skill on the ball and as a defender, but also for her quickness and tenacity in running down attackers. Pomeroy coach Mike Aycock agrees wholeheartedly. “Cami’s speed of play and quickness are remarkable,” said Aycock. “She makes great decisions and is an excellent passer, with a lot of comfort on the ball under pressure. She’ll make us better, wherever she plays.”
