Jan. 17, 2014
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College head softball coach Mark Feller has announced a new addition to the Pomeroy softball team. On Thursday, January 16, Kelly Combs signed a letter of intent to join the Pomeroys for the 2014-2015 season.
“Kelly is an outstanding athlete that brings a tremendous skill set and great knowledge of the game to SMWC,” said Feller. “She is yet another building block to the talented group of recruits coming to The Woods in 2014.”
Combs is currently a senior at Riverton Parke High School in Montezuma, Ind. She has been a utility player for the Lady Panthers playing multiple positions including catcher, pitcher, second base, third base, the outfield, and shortstop. Combs has also played travel softball with the Terre Haute Lady Rex and with the Indiana Diamond Terror.
At Riverton Parke, Combs has been a three-year letterwinner in softball and has been honored as an All-Wabash River Conference selection the past two seasons. The multi-sport standout has also played volleyball for four years and basketball for two. Combs will play one more softball season this spring with the Lady Panthers before she joins the Pomeroys next fall.
“It is so exciting,” exclaimed Combs on her signing. “I have been waiting for this day forever. SMWC has been my first choice since I was little and I’ve always wanted to play college softball. I feel right at home.”
