Gary Rodgers resigns as SMWC head softball coach
May 24, 2013
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) head softball coach Gary Rodgers submitted his resignation effective May 31, 2013. Rodgers plans to spend more time with his family in retirement.
Rodgers spent seven seasons at the helm of the Pomeroy program. Since 2006, Rodgers compiled a record of 187 wins, the most by any coach in school history. He guided the Pomeroys to two USCAA National Championships, three runner-up finishes, and one third place finish. He coached 13 All-Americans, 16 All-Academic honorees, and six All-American Honorable Mention student athletes.
“Gary has done a tremendous job during his tenure,” said SMWC’s Athletic Director Deanna Bradley. “He not only had great success in the win/loss columns, but also in the relationship arena. His rapport with his players is outstanding and as he retires from coaching, he has left his players feeling successful about their athletic accomplishments and more importantly, about themselves. We are certainly going to miss him.”
A search will begin immediately to secure a new head coach.
