Purdue-Calumet (20-5) came into Friday’s matchup winning seven of their last eight games and have been one of the best teams in the NAIA nationally. In the first game, the Peregrines would jump out to an early 1-0 in the first before a Kirby Schuble solo homerun tied up the game 1-1 in the top of the second. The Peregrines would take the lead again off an RBI single by Ana Duda for the 2-1 advantage.
The Pomeroys would battle back, tying the game up in the top of the third when a Shelby Barnett RBI double brought home Ciara McClain. That one-run lead would be short lived as Purdue-Calumet would tack on another run off a sacrifice fly.
The game would remain 3-2 in favor of the Peregrines before a five-run outburst in the sixth would blow the game wide open and Purdue-Calumet would earn their 20th win of the season.
In 6.0 innings pitched, SMWC’s Brooke Jordan (10-6) finished with 6 strikeouts, 6 walks, and 6 earned runs off 8 hits.
