Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry at SMWC is grounded in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church and works closely with local Campus Ministers from other Christian traditions to keep students connected to the religious tradition of their nuclear family and to develop an adult sense of spirituality and vocation through the changes and challenges of college life. Its underlying themes include love, justice, and mercy following the spirit of the Sisters of Providence.

Major programs include:

  • Community outreach, service learning, and off campus trips, to combine faith and action
  • Retreats, to study the Scriptures and live in imitation of Jesus Christ
  • Liturgy, with the option of active participation as lectors of the Scriptures, as  Eucharistic Ministers, and as cantors or musicians
  • Catholicism Classes in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults [R.C.I.A.] and the option to sponsor friends in their faith journey
  • Opportunity for daily evening prayer--praying the psalms and lifting up prayer requests brought to campus awareness
  • Spiritual development through committee work for communal events such as Ring Day Celebrations, Opening Ritual, and the opportunity for formal spiritual direction

Carolyn Sur, SSND, Ph.D., director of Campus Ministry can be reached at ext. 5244 or by e-mail at csur@smwc.edu. The Campus Ministry Office is located on the main floor of Le Fer Hall, room 111.
