Commuter Life
Have an outside job? Live at home? Have a family of your own? These are just some of the outside activities you may be juggling while commuting to class each day. A class load on top of these activities may be stressful, but at Saint Mary-of-the Woods, we’re prepared to help you balance your school and personal life. Need a break from your personal life? Student Activities Committee (S.A.C.) and the Campus Life office hosts a variety of events such as hypnotists, concerts, comedians, guest lectures, and dances throughout the year.
SWMC prides itself on giving its students a voice. Student Senate, our student run government, is the voice of the student body and wants to hear any concerns or ideas that you may have. In an effort to make sure that all commuter's needs are being met, Student Senate holds a "Commuter Corner" once a month during lunch (when most commuters are on campus for classes) to gather any questions about policies, ideas for changes or even concerns that commuters may have. We are a close community and want everyone's idea(s) to be heard!
Lounge Areas
We offer several lounges that allow you to study in between your classes. All areas are wireless allowing access to the Internet. The main student lounge, Sullivan Lounge, is located on the first floor of Le Fer. This lounge has a large screen TV with a VCR/DVD player and is connected to cable service. You are also welcome to use the open lounge/study areas on the second, third and fourth floors of Le Fer Hall. Prior to going upstairs, it is required that you sign the "Guest Sign-In" sheet located at the Reception area. Commuter students must be accompanied by a resident student on the residence hall floor after 6:00 p.m.
The Oakley Student Center (OSC), located on the ground floor of Le Fer, is equipped with a coin operated copy machine, vending machines, ice machine, recreational tables, and two televisions. Also located in OSC is a breakfast facility operated by Sodexo Food Services that is open to all students, faculty and staff and sells items a la carte.
Hulman Hall Student Lounge is located on the ground level just outside of the SMWC bookstore. A mini-refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot is available for student use.
