General Study Requirements
The General Studies curriculum is the foundation of a Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College education, representing the College’s liberal arts vision and its commitment to the preparation of every student for a diverse and changing world.
This curriculum challenges students to develop a non-specialist level of proficiency in key academic perspectives (creative/expressive, scientific, social/cultural, and theological) and helps students integrate and synthesize material from all these perspectives.
General studies in the Woods External Degree program are arranged into separate disciplines and allow students to have considerable choices in choosing the general studies classes they take.
General studies in the Woods Online program focus on themes drawn from the "Earth Charter," the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights," and the "Themes of Catholic Social Teaching." General study classes in the Woods Online program are structured and only a few options are given for customizing your general study education.
Please view the undergraduate college catalog (PDF) for more details on general study requirements.
