A Gift That Will Last Forever
One visit – that’s all it takes to realize that SMWC is unlike any other place in the world. We all have special memories scattered among these old oak trees. Jerry drove hours down winding county roads to visit me at The Woods. He fell in love with this place as he was falling in love with me. Our family is rooted here, like Sister Mary Joseph’s enthusiasm, Sisters Sue’s singing and Mother Theodore’s backbone.
Along with our specific memories, we also share experiences across generations, ones that define us as Woods women. Being comfortable in our skin, confident in our abilities and courageous in our leadership – this is what Pomeroy Pride is all about.
Right now, we are at a pivotal moment in the life of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. We have a rare opportunity to write history books. As a community of graduates, our charge is to help these Woods experiences reach future generations.
Just glancing at the landscape of higher education reveals a skyline of buildings devoted to recreation, fitness and school spirit. We need a sports and recreation center to strengthen our student recruitment and retention. We need this building to give students a panoptic college experience. We need this building to inspire confident leaders, create well-rounded scholars and increase the prominence of the College. We need this building to solidify our place among the great colleges of the 21st century.
We chose to be the chairs of the campaign committee because we believe SMWC makes the world a better place. This building, nestled among others a hundred years old, will merge tradition and innovation. It is a place for us all to feel connected –where young women can cheer on their classmates during a game, alums can swell with school spirit and the Wabash Valley can join The Woods community. It is a place for us all to feel Pomeroy Pride.
