Transition to Teaching Licensure
Students who have already obtained a degree may pursue teacher licensure only by completing the shorter but more intensive route to licensure.

Requirements for Transition to Teaching Licensure
Admission to the Transition to Teaching Middle School/Junior High and High School Education Programs requires an undergraduate degree in the content area the candidate intends to teach. Admission to the Transition to Teaching Kindergarten-Elementary Education program; the Elementary Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention; or the MS/HS Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention program requires an undergraduate degree in any area.
Additional admission criteria include:
- 3.0 undergraduate G.P.A., or 2.5 G.P.A. with five years of applicable full-time professional experience, or a master's degree
- Excellent writing skills
- Indiana passing scores on PRAXIS I Reading (176), Writing (172), and Mathematics (175) tests
- Indiana passing scores on PRAXIS II subject area tests (middle school/junior high and high school education applicants only)
- Professional recommendations (3)
- Criminal history check
All Transition to Teaching Licensure Program areas require completion of the following:
- Education Core, Developmental Level, and Content Courses – condensed, accelerated versions (Follow each area’s link for specific coursework)
- Practica and Student Teaching – condensed, accelerated versions
- Formative Assessments (embedded in courses and practica)
- Gateway Process (Gateway 1- modified, 2, and 3) (PDF)
Special Instructions for Applying
If you are applying for our post-baccalaureate, transition to teaching licensure program you must complete both the Application for Admission and the Accelerated Teacher Licensure Supplement.
