SMWC to lead environmental cleanup
The Sustainability Club at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College enhances the quality of life on campus and in the community with a number of sustainability initiatives. The club invites the Wabash Valley community to join them in its second annual cleanup effort at the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area. It will take place along the west bank of the Wabash River between Terre Haute and West Terre Haute. Operation:Wabashiki is scheduled for Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Woods showing documentary “Sound of Mumbai: The Musical”
Music has the power to change lives. This is certainly the hope of the poverty-stricken children in the documentary “The Sound of Mumbai: A Musical.” A showing of the film will be on April 11, 2012, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), in the Cecilian Auditorium, at 7 p.m.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen O’Rourke-Dyer as vice president for advancement, with responsibility for development, alumnae/i relations and advancement services. She begins her duties on April 2, 2012.

Jabali Afrika to perform at The Woods
Keyna’s afro-rock group, Jabali Afrika, brings a distinctive sound of powerful percussions and big vocal harmonies. They will perform at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Four-Star Series on April 3, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the Cecilian Auditorium.

A vacation that changes lives: Woods students help children during spring break
SMWC students spent their spring break, March 10-16, 2012, helping New Orleans Head Start teachers by cleaning rooms, monitoring children and setting up activities. They worked one-on-one with children by reading books, supervising play and getting directly involved in their activities.

Trading vacation for volunteering: SMWC group dives into the tornado cleanup effort for spring break
On March 13 and 15, more than 20 SMWC students, staff and alumnae trekked down to tornado ravaged parts of southern Indiana with donations, supplies and helping hands.

Rachel Leslie named advancement director
In her new role, Leslie will support advancement efforts of the College in alumnae/i relations, annual giving, major and planned giving, grants development, donor stewardship, research, and data management. She will manage comprehensive advancement programs with the goal of increasing philanthropic support.

Four-Star Series presents Vera Bradley
The Vera Bradley company, a leader in fashionable quilted handbags, luggage and accessories, will be featured at the Four-Star Series at SMWC. Jill Nichols, executive vice president for Vera Bradley, will deliver and engaging presentation on the Vera Bradley story on March 21, 2012. The event is free and open to the public.
