Eight three campus, distance and graduate students received their Woods Ring in a powerfully moving ceremony on March 23, 2013. The ring is visible evidence of the tradition of academic excellence, personal growth and fortitude, which are the roots of The Woods. It is an enduring symbol that is far more than a piece of jewelry. It honors academic success and sacrifice, while demonstrating the pride and loyalty the students and alumnae/i share.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) and Duke Energy have teamed up to offer an exciting program called TWIST – Today’s Women In STEM Tomorrow. The TWIST program, for girls in 6th – 9th grade, will take place April 12-13, 2013, at SMWC. This overnight, science-filled event is equipped with a variety of programs. It features workshops with hands-on learning in each of the STEM areas.

The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Equestrian Western Team travels to Syracuse, New York to compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Western Semi-Finals. The weekend show will take place at the New York State Fairgrounds on March 23-24, 2013

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College received a silver award from the “Higher Education Marketing Report” 28th Annual Educational Advertising Awards. The full-page ad publicly announced the launch of the College’s campaign to build a sports and recreation center titled the Pomeroy Pride Campaign.

The Kent State University (KSU) Chorale of Kent, Ohio will present a concert on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 7:30 pm at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Cecilian Auditorium. The program will feature William Byrd’s Ave verum corpus, Josquin des Prez’ Tu pauperum refugium, Haydn’s The Heaven’s Are Telling, Brahms’s O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf, Britten’s I Lov’d a Lass and Lift Boy, a set of Chinese folk songs and more. The concert is free and open to the public.

Local youth will once again participate in a national lemonade stand event on May 18, 2013. Lemonade Day is a free, nation-wide program dedicated to teaching children how to start, own and operate their own business through the simple and time-honored act of building and running a lemonade stand. Young entrepreneurs will hit the streets and learn a valuable lesson for business success in their youth: don’t wait to find a job, create one.

Is math an abstract concept, or a matter of life and death? Three students from Saint Mary-of-the Woods College (SMWC) learned more about the importance of mathematics at the 14th Annual Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln on January 25-27, 2013. This event allows outstanding women undergraduates to mingle with a select group of current women graduate students and professional women in math related fields.

Maybe it will be an Indiana high school student. Who will encourage that student to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, or math? Perhaps it will be Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

It’s an all-too-common scenario. A recent college graduate faces her first job interview. She opens her closet door and sifts through the jeans, hoodies, and tank tops she owns. She knows it’s important to dress nicely for her interview, but with student debt and a part-time job, she can’t afford a new outfit. What can she do? Thankfully, the Career Development Center at Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) has a solution.
