“Those who can, do AND teach.” That’s what Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Department Chair and Associate Professor of Graphic Design, Rebecca Andrews wants to stress at the Art Gallery’s first exhibition of the 2014-15 academic year. The exhibit will feature work of the department of text and image faculty and will be on display through Dec. 5, 2014.

From 800 resumes and 238 interviews with many highly qualified candidates, the Directors of the Orr Fellowship chose just over 100 finalists. One of those finalists is Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) senior, Amanda Payton, the first Pomeroy to have made it this far in the process.

So when three SMWC honors students heard about the opportunity to compete in the Ethics Bowl at Marian University, an event they had no previous knowledge of before SMWC Honors Director Kathryn Myers suggested it, of course they tackled it.

As a women’s liberal arts college that prides itself on offering a variety of opportunities to gain leadership skills, SMWC encourages students to take advantage of those opportunities. In the case of Bethany Arrigo, senior accounting major at SMWC, what began as a suggestion from her advisor to join Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) her freshmen year, eventually landed her in the top 10 at National Leadership Conference (NLC) hosted by Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA – PBL).

In the name of Indiana’s first saint, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is offering two full tuition scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend SMWC in fall 2015. In addition to the full tuition scholarships, SMWC will offer five $17,000 scholarships. The scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship offered by the College to aspiring students honoring exceptional leadership and civic engagement.

It’s a moment that Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Athletic Director and Basketball Coach, Deanna Bradley, has been waiting for since the “old gym” on campus closed 14 years ago – the moment in which she will walk the SMWC basketball team from their own locker room to their own home court for a basketball game.

Admit it. Science, math and technology are pretty cool. So, why do only 20 percent of young women, compared to 50 percent of young men, choose STEM majors in college? Research shows that middle school is pivotal time in a girl’s life when it comes to career choices. Unfortunately, it is also at this age that girls begin to lose interest in math and science. For these reasons, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) hosts the Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™ (EYH) conference, which nurtures girls’ interest in science and math courses to encourage them to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
