In Indiana, the equine industry generates more than $2 billion each year; horse racing accounts for the biggest portion of that. So what happens to those revenue-generating race horses after they retire? Many find opportunities for new homes and off-the-track careers; some find it through the Mari Hulman George Equine Adoption at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). Although the adoptable horses from the Mari Hulman George Circle S Ranch are retiring from racing, they have the potential to be successful in a variety of off-the-track careers. The third annual adoption will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) alums clicked their heels together, saying “There’s no place like … SMWC.” Over 200 faculty, staff, alums, students, friends and family gathered for Homecoming 2015, which carried the theme, “There’s No Place Like Home.”

The Wabash Valley Leadership Institute (WVLI) announces its third cohort scheduled for Nov. 16-20, 2015, on the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). Applications are being accepted until Oct. 2, 2015. The WVLI is looking for community members who are ready to be awesome, to be trail blazers for their organizations and the community – people who are ready to become better leaders, communicators, facilitators and collaborators.

The Pomeroy Wellness Program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is an innovative and collaborative program that has begun to shape a healthier community in the Wabash Valley. The efforts of the program were recognized at the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce 102nd Annual Meeting as the winner of the Community Health and Wellness Champion Award.

The sunshine slipped through the trees and danced on the Avenue this morning as a new class of Pomeroys entered the front gate of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). President Dottie King, Ph.D., personally greeted each student that arrived. The students – who arrived with their parents, grandparents, siblings and friends, ready to help move in all of the belongings that they chose to bring with them – received a handshake from the president and a fond welcome from the SMWC staff members who lined the Avenue, cheering as each car passed. Move-In Day at SMWC is a time for new students to get settled in and is the official kick-off of Orientation Weekend.

“Re-Unite, Re-Connect and Re-Build” is the theme for a unique service to help couples who are reunifying following military deployment of one or both spouses. Divorce rates of military couples following reintegration from deployment are well over average population correlations. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) partnered with the Indiana United Service Organizations (USO) to provide an opportunity for couples to grow back together after separation during deployment.
