KnowHow2Go at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) prepares area high school juniors for college and beyond. This year’s Learn More Indiana campaign has shifted from college readiness to career readiness. Juniors from Terre Haute South High School will participate in the event at SMWC on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The world won't become a better place unless people do something. There are many opportunities out there to have your voice heard and aspire higher.” These are the words of a freshman at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). Nichole Willey is a freshman who already understands the value of service learning – a freshman who participated in the alternative spring break trip. Fourteen SMWC students and staff traveled to Washington, D.C., during spring break to volunteer at various locations and hand-deliver letters to Indiana senators.

In the next decade, the amount of jobs in the paralegal profession is expected to grow 17 percent faster than the average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s a projected nearly 47,000 new jobs in the field. And Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is dedicated to placing students directly into those positions through its Woods Online paralegal program.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) celebrates its 177th commencement on May 2, 2015. The traditional baccalaureate mass begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Approximately 90 students are expected to participate in the commencement ceremony, which will begin at 2 p.m. in the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center, Hamilton Arena.

Through eight different summer camps, tailored to various fields of study and age groups, SMWC is committed to empowering campers as they explore their interests, ignite their passions, learn leadership skills, make new friends and build self-esteem in a beautiful environment.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) student volunteers will put on their gloves once again this year in an effort to preserve the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area. The fifth annual clean-up effort led by The Woods Sustainability Club will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., along US Highway 40 in West Terre Haute, Ind.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) announces the winners of its most prestigious award – the Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholarship, named in honor of the College’s foundress. This award is presented to students who display unique experiences, aptitudes and abilities to aspire higher and make a difference in their local communities and beyond. Seven scholarships – two full-tuition and five $17,000 awards, all renewable for four years – are given to students who embody the qualities of the College’s foundress.

Ninety Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) students, including campus, online and graduate, participated in the time-honored tradition of Ring Day on Saturday, March 21, 2015. During the ceremony in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, participants of the 93rd annual Ring Day soaked up words of wisdom from President Dottie King, Ph.D. and keynote speaker Lisa Stallings, Sister of Providence. Then, each student received her ring from President King, and they all joined together for the Ring Song before exiting the Church with their Woods rings proudly on their hands.
