Woodsies give back in NYC

Soup kitchens, immigration offices and food pantries may not sound like spring break, but that’s exactly where 13 Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) students chose to spend theirs. This year’s alternative spring break service trip led SMWC to New York City where students volunteered at Trinity Lutheran Soup Kitchen, Cabrini Immigration Services and Most Holy Trinity – St. Mary.

Indie folk group comes to SMWC

The Speedbumps, indie folk group and Independent Music Awards (IMA) winner, comes to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), Cecilian Auditorium on Mon., April 14, at 7:30 p.m. The Speedbumps, from Kent, Ohio, will bring their Midwest vibes and folk-rock groove to The Woods for this spring concert.

SMWC Volunteers Clean Up Wabashiki

Each spring, The Woods Sustainability Club at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) makes it their mission to spend a day working to preserve the Wabashiki Wetlands through their initiative, Operation: Wabashiki. For the fourth year, student volunteers will put on their gloves for the wetland clean-up along Highway 40 in West Terre Haute, Ind.

This is just one of the eye-opening facts about women leadership that Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) President Dottie King cited as keynote speaker at the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Hamilton Country Leadership Luncheon.

The State Leadership Conference, hosted by Indiana Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), is an opportunity for young leaders to come together to compete, learn, network and receive recognition for their success. “Her ring we take, of us a part, encircling fingers young ‘round her heart. I pledge to her, a ring to keep, like Woods is lovely, dark and deep. And I have promises and miles to go.” With these words, part of the Ring Song, the 92nd annual Ring Day ceremony at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) concluded. Echoes of the recipients’ collective voices beautifully fell on the hush of the audience in the Church of Immaculate Conception on Sat., March 22, 2014.
