Students who aspire to be exceptional musicians will find their dream easier to fulfill with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s new music scholarship. The SMWC Music and Theatre Department announces a new opportunity for students wishing to pursue a degree in music or music therapy. A collaborative effort between the Music and Theatre Department, the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Admission, the SMWC Musician of Promise Scholarship is a $17,000 scholarship toward the cost of tuition, renewable for four years.

“Music has been an integral part of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods liberal arts curriculum since its inception. The music faculty excel in their fields and provide students with a supportive, yet challenging, learning experience from day one,” states Sharon Boyle, MM, MT-BC, associate professor music therapy and coordinator of the undergraduate music therapy program at SMWC. “We excel in helping a student develop their potential both musically and professionally, while encouraging them to grow personally as well. There is no other experience quite like being a music student at the Woods.”

SMWC is currently accepting Musician of Promise Scholarship applications for the 2016-17 academic year. This requires an essay in addition to the interview and audition that all prospective music and music therapy students complete.

Students applying for the Musician of Promise Scholarship will also automatically be considered for other music scholarships as well. While only one student will receive the Musician of Promise Scholarship each year, many deserving students who audition may also receive some type of music scholarship to assist with overall financial aid packages.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be admitted, first-time freshmen who plan to attend SMWC full-time in a music degree program. Students must submit an audition request form followed by an audition on the intended primary voice/instrument of study, essay and interview. Deadline is March 5, 2016.
