Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) offers its most prestigious scholarship in the form of two full tuition scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend SMWC in fall 2016. In addition to the full tuition scholarships, SMWC will offer five $17,000 scholarships.

The Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholarship, named after Indiana’s first saint and the foundress of the College, was created to recognize students with exceptional leadership and civic engagement who embody the principles by which Guerin lived and served. The scholarships will be awarded to students nationwide who have used their unique experiences, aptitudes and abilities to make a difference in their local communities and beyond.

“The Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholarship means the world to me! It is the sole reason I am able to afford the cost of attending Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. However, the monetary value of the scholarship does not amount to the sentimental value,” states Kristin Foster, of Metropolis, Ill., freshman music therapy major and Saint Mother Theodore Guerin scholar. “SMWC was founded by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, a woman who truly loved God and all of God’s people. To be the recipient of a scholarship named after her is a true honor. I know that while I am here, I will be able to continue to follow God’s path for me and serve others as Saint Mother Theodore Guerin did. The opportunities because of this scholarship are priceless!”

The process to apply includes a general application to SMWC, an essay on the topic provided and a letter of recommendation. All applications will be reviewed, and finalists will be notified in January to interview on campus.

Additional honor level scholarships will be awarded to select applicants of the Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholarship. All of these awards are renewable for a total of four years. To be considered, prospective students should visit www.smwc.edu/smtg to apply before the December 31, 2015 deadline.
