SMWC prepares local juniors for life after high school

News | 05.01.2015

High school students eagerly raise their hands to ask questions to the student panel at last year’s KnowHow2Go at SMWC.

KnowHow2Go at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) prepares area high school juniors for college and beyond. This year’s Learn More Indiana campaign has shifted from college readiness to career readiness. Juniors from Terre Haute South High School will participate in the event at SMWC on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants will learn about important topics such as responsible use of social media, career readiness, resident life, finding the right college, interview processes and opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, as well as participate in career activities.

“KnowHow2Go gives students real-world advice and practical experiences to assist students in preparing for their future chosen careers,” states Marsha Dull, SMWC campus admission counselor. “As the focus of this event has been changed from college readiness to career readiness, it remains important for the students to maintain access to necessary information to attain their goals.”

As a representative of the Vigo County College Success Coalition, SMWC has offered this event for four years and has had success in delivering a great program with solid information. It is an opportunity for all of the area higher education institutions to come together and share their advice to local high school juniors.

KnowHow2Go was created by the American Council on Education, Lumina Foundation and the Ad Council to encourage high school students to prepare for college. For more information about KnowHow2Go at SMWC, contact Marsha Dull at mdull@smwc.edu.
