Saint Theodora and Her Promise to God

Telling the story of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s (SMWC) foundress, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, in a way that children can enjoy is what one alumni recently did in the form of a children’s book. Mary K. Doyle, 2005 graduate of the Masters of Pastoral Theology program recently authored “Saint Theodora and Her Promise to God,” her sixth book. Published by the Sisters of Providence, Doyle’s book is an inspiring story of how one little girl followed God’s call.

The story begins at Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s childhood home, Etables, France, when she was known as Anne-Therese. It follows her on her journey into adulthood and across the ocean to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., where she founded SMWC in 1840, all the way to being declared a saint in 2006. Easy to read with beautiful illustrations, “Saint Theodora and Her Promise to God” makes Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s tale accessible to children of all ages.

“All children were, and always will be, dear to Saint Theodora,” said Doyle, of Geneva, Ill. “I know when any child comes to her in prayer, she greets them with open, loving arms. I love Saint Theodora more every day and wrote this book so children could know and love her also.”

Doyle’s other books include “Young in the Spirit,” “Grieving with Mary, “The Seven Principles of Sainthood,” “The Rosary Prayer by Prayer,” and “Mentoring Heroes.” She also writed two blogs, “Saint Theordora/Saint Mother Theodore Guerin” and “Midwest Mary.”

“Saint Theodora and Her Promise to God” is available for purchase through the Sisters of Providence Gift Shop. It is also available in the ebook form on Amazon.
