Jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness are weaved throughout the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s production of the Shakespeare classic The Winter’s Tale.  Audiences of all ages will experience the mythic beauty of a fairytale with costumes inspired by the Renaissance through the mid-eighteenth century for five performances beginning on Thursday, February 24.

Director Sharon Ammen, Ph.D., professor of theatre is known for her unique adaptation of Shakespeare’s plays coupled with her respect of Shakespeare’s language.  Audiences will enjoy original music written specifically for the production by John McIntyre, associate professor of music and winner of numerous national awards for his compositions.

The story takes an emotional journey full of twists, turns and family secrets. These twists and turns unfold through the tragic consequences of a king’s unreasonable jealousy, royalty in disguise, pastoral celebrations, the magic in the undying loyalty of true love and the escapades of the foolish nouveau riche.

Brandon Wentz, professional guest artist, who wowed SMWC  audiences in Urinetown, the Musical, will star in the production. Wentz credits include performing and voicing commercials in theCincinnati area and performances with Indiana State University’s Crossroads Repertory Theatre. Cast members also include playwright Jonathan Golombiecki, SMWC’s faculty members Sister Rosemary Nudd and Father Bernie LaMontagne, and twenty-five SMWC students.

Among the students are Sherry Bube, music therapy major, and Ashley McDonald, biology major, who portray the wronged Queen Hermione and her staunch defender Paulina, respectively.  Danielle O’Connor, theatre major, serves as the assistant director and stage manager.
