News | 03.28.2012

The Sustainability Club at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College enhances the quality of life on campus and in the community with a number of sustainability initiatives. The club invites the Wabash Valley community to join them in its second annual cleanup effort at the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area. It will take place along the west bank of the Wabash River between Terre Haute and West Terre Haute. Operation:Wabashiki is scheduled for Sunday, April 15, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Our goal is to create environmental awareness and an understanding of sustainability issues. Many endangered species inhabit these wetlands and we feel it is our responsibility as a community to keep it clean.”

Republic Services, America’s second largest non-hazardous solid waste services company, volunteered to assist in the removal of the litter.

Participants are asked to dress appropriately for volunteer work by bringing work gloves and safety glasses. Anyone ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Coffee and lunch will be provided at Duey Point.
