Shovels entered the ground on Dec. 3, 2013, on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) campus as a decade-long vision of the new sports and recreation center was finally coming to fruition. Over 300 students, staff, faculty, alums and friends gathered at the site of the future building as SMWC President Dottie King, Ph.D., spoke about the Pomeroy Pride campaign and thanked all of those who contributed to the success.

The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to the Greater Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Foundation for “Pomeroy Wellness Program: A Heart Healthy Model for Better Health in the Wabash Valley,” a collaborative project in support of its Better Health Wabash Valley initiative.

When Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Associate Professor of Paralegal Studies, Kathryn Myers, saw a gap in the available learning materials for her field, she decided to do something about it. Myers recently became an author when she wrote three books about legal research, writing and analysis.

“U.S. News & World Report” recognizes Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in its inaugural issue of Best Colleges for Veterans. SMWC ranks sixth for Best Regional Colleges (Midwest) for helping veterans pursue a college education under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

When new campus minister, Andrea Beyke, drove through the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods gates for the first time, she knew she was home. Beyke immediately recognized the feeling of calm surrounding the campus.

Within a three-hour timespan, over 20 people had gathered at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to give their time and creative energy to benefit the 4th annual Soup Bowl Benefit of the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank.

Give-a-Book is a program that puts a personalized book in the hands of kindergarteners at a local elementary school. This year, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College was one of the sponsors of this wonderful program that encourages students to read by making them the star of the book.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana initiated their partnership through the Lt. Governor’s Leadership Luncheon at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis on Tuesday, November 13, 2013. SMWC sponsored the luncheon, which honored Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.

For the third consecutive year, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) will participate in the Remembrance Day National Roll Call project to honor American service men and women from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2013, at the Rooney Library.
