New Blog now in Beta
Posted on: 07/01
The Web Development Team is please to announce that the College's Web Blog is now officially in the BETA stage of development.
The web blog will be used to syndicate news stories throughout the entire smwc.edu website. By tagging stories with 'keywords', blog post authors can easy distribute news stories and important information to key audiences that might not otherwise visit the college's news site.
Speak your Mind!
Additionally, the blog offers visitors of the College's website a way to speak back. Visitors have the ability to post comments on most news stories. A great amount of effort has been put into keeping the blog SPAM-free. The web development team has set up a few advanced technologies to keep spammers from posting ads in the comment sections. Daniel Mitchell, the lead web develop had this to say about blog spam - “We've built a layered defense against blog comment spammers, involving both automated systems to keep spammers away and procedures for manually removing innapropriate posts in a timely manner.”
Visitors have the ability to comment on stories up to 7 days old, after that period the ability to comment is disabled.
Website Development Update
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is in the process of redevelopment its website and web presence. The process started eight months ago and is in its final stages. The launch of the web blog is just one of several critical steps to in the redevelopment phase.
The College has been maintaining two websites for the last three months; one at http://www.smwc.edu and the other at http://www.saintmaryofthewoods.net. This parallel development allowed the web development team to try out new designs and test applications without effecting regular web traffic.
During the last week of July, the saintmaryofthewoods.net website will be accessible through the smwc.edu web address. Visitors to the college's website may notice a little 'down-time' during the transition, which may last several hours.
