Danielle Rosselli, a 2008 graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School, is the first student to sign with the new golf team at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC).

Steve Higham, head coach for the SMWC golf team, said that he is very excited to sign Rosselli as the first member of the team.

“She's not just a fine golfer, but she's also a fine young lady. She'll be a very good representative for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.” Higham said. “We're starting the team with a high standard, and we'll have to match that with our future recruits.”

Rosselli was a four-year golfer at Terre Haute North Vigo High School, and she has been playing golf since she was a young girl. In addition to being a member of the varsity golf team at Terre Haute North, Rosselli was a member of the Dance Team, Interact, DECA and Youth Leadership. She was also elected Homecoming Queen, and she has volunteered with a number of organizations in the community, including Happiness Bag and the Light House Mission. While taking part in these activities she also worked as a part-time employee at Pacesetter Sports.

Rosselli is the daughter of Jeff and Terri Rosselli, and she plans to major in psychology at SMWC. She said she is excited about playing golf at The Woods with Higham as the head coach.

“I played for [Higham] in high school, and when he called me, I thought it would be a great opportunity,” Rosselli said. “I'm really excited and honored to come out to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to play for their golf program.”

Deanna Bradley, athletic director at SMWC, said that while the College is recruiting for the new SMWC golf team, a full team and schedule are not expected to be in place until Fall 2009. Students who are recruited for the golf program will spend the 2008 season playing in invitational tournaments and practicing on challenging courses to prepare for the 2009 season.
