Sustainability at Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods
Environmental sustainability at a college campus is included in both the curriculum and operations. The concpet of sustainability is reflected in the mission of Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College.
"By participating in this community, students develop their abilities to think critically, to communicate responsibly, to engage in lifelong learning and leadership, and to effect positive change in a global society."
- The Earth Literacy Masters Program provides interdisciplinary learning that fosters the capacity to understand the world in order to promote sustainability of our planet as a habitat for life.
- Environmental Sciences Minor helps students understand how the natural world and human society are interconnected. This minor is appropriate to include with a wide variety of majors since the complex and critical relationship we have with our environment is vital to life on Earth; and a growing concern of our society and of students regardless of their major.
- Greening The Woods Committee was formed with the realization that students, faculty, and staff are interdependent members of the campus community, who must work together to enhance the sustainability of our campus, an important part of the mission of this college.
- Recycling at the Woods is encouraged and supported. One of the first goals of the Greening the Woods committee is the increase the proportion of our solid waste that is recycled.
