Mascot Competition
During the 2007-2008 academic year, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College conducted a Mascot Contest to identify mascot ideas that would embody the history, traditions, spirit, pride and energy of the SMWC community. The submission process was open to all members of the SMWC community, including students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, the Board of Trustees, and the Sisters of Providence; the College received more than 120 entries for the contest.
The Mascot Committee met on May 1, 2008, to review all of the mascot submissions, and after much discussion, the top three mascot concepts were chosen:
During the summer months, the College enlisted the assistance of ProMo Costumes from Marion, Ohio, to create basic artwork to accompany these concepts so they could be shared with the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College community.
Below, you will find links to the mascot drawings and some notes that share the Committee’s thoughts on why these mascots embody the history, traditions, spirit, pride and energy of the SMWC community and our athletic teams.
You will also see a “VOTE NOW!” link that will take you to a page where you can vote for your mascot of choice. This page will also give you the opportunity to provide feedback on the mascot concepts and drawings. Once the mascot has been chosen, we will be working with the mascot development company to customize SMWC's mascot design, so we encourage you to submit your comments and suggestions.
Many thanks to those who submitted their mascot ideas, and even those who just e-mailed to show their support of this endeavor! We’re looking forward to seeing what you choose as the new mascot for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College!
