For nearly 40 years, SMWC has been a leader in distance education through the Woods External Degree (WED) program. Our graduates who tell us they are forever changed by this educational experience prove the success of these programs.

To expand on this success, all distance courses are now delivered in an interactive, online format. Under the umbrella of the Woods Online Office, the distance program is now known as Woods Online. 

How Does It Work

Woods Online maintains two formats  – 16- and 8-week courses to allow you to choose what works best for your lifestyle. These formats allow more flexibility than ever before. Students can incorporate courses from both formats in a single semester from the available options.  The 16-week format is what was known as WED; although now entirely online.

For you, the students, this means consistent access to course materials, more faculty-lead instruction and more opportunities for interaction with classmates. While many distance students are self-directed by nature, the online course conversion allows for flexible instruction and responsive support. You will discover many more opportunities for active engagement in your learning process.

In addition, you’ll enjoy innovative technology. By accessing the online library, online tutoring, and sometimes ebooks and computer simulations, you’ll discover many opportunities for active engagement in your learning process.
