Woods Online Student Experiences
What current students and recent graduates are saying about their distance experiences at The Woods:
If you are a student considering the distance program at the Woods, self discipline is key. No one is going to be there to tell you to do your assignments. You really have to be prepared to make yourself sit down and
do the work.
Working full time, and wanting to advance in my field, I needed a high quality program that would allow the flexibility necessary for me to meet the demands of both my job and my education. SMWC's distance program gave me the exact combination I was looking for.

Accounting Major

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in the field of theology, I will begin training to be a chaplin for the National Parks Services. After working as a chef in Cinderella's Castle at Disney World, I want to follow up with a career that is no less than ‘magical.’
The distance program at SMWC has allowed me the opportunity to earn a degree while maintaining the hectic routine of my adult life. I have been able to continue performing my volunteer services and all other activities that I enjoy outside of the campus environment.

Theology Major

How does a wife and mom to four boys manage to fit a full load of courses at SMWC into an already crazy schedule?
“Truth is, it is not really that hard. I have found there are many places to sneak in time to study: car line at school, sitting next to a bathtub while a two-year-old splashes bubbles, standing with a text book in the laundry room waiting for the dryer to finish while the washer is on rinse, even while waiting the thirty minutes it takes for the hair color to process to hide all the gray hairs… all opportunities to get in a little study time. There is time to be successful in the WED program and I am proof of that.”

Kindergarten/Elementary Education major

Among the 2011 graduates were father and daughter, Steve and Cynthia Nichols. Steve, an undergraduate history major and Cynthia, a master's of leadership development degree recipient expressed their gratitude for participating in the commencement ceremony together. Both earned associates degrees together at another college.
"Graduating with dad was great. I am only sad that we didn't sit together this time around."
Cynthia Nichols ('11)
