Using D2L to Meet the Challenges of a Master of Education Program Utilizing a Hybrid-course Format
Poster Presenters: Anneliese Payne, Ph.D and Rachel Star, ED.D.
Abstract: The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program at Saint Mary-of-Woods College is designed for women and men who wish to pursue a graduate degree in education and are currently teaching in their own classroom. The program combines coursework in pedagogy, leadership, research and technology to prepare teachers to lead curriculum reform efforts, develop school improvement plans, develop assessment plans and serve as change agents within their learning communities. The 36-credit hour program is designed to be completed in one year using the hybrid-course format, with on-site face-to-face cohort group seminars at the beginning and end of each course, an interactive webinar experience in the middle, and web-based assignments and discussions throughout the course. Making these courses available online through D2L and meeting students’ needs with quality teaching and learning is vital to the success of the program.
