The Health Services Clinic at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will continue to offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to its students, employees and surrounding community each week.

Students began the fall semester fully in-person with physically distanced classes. While a vaccine clinic was held on campus in April, SMWC officials want to continue to be proactive, encouraging all individuals on campus to be vaccinated.

Janet Clark, Ph.D., provost/vice president for academic affairs, said the vaccine is an important part of keeping The Woods community safe. She serves as head of the SMWC COVID Taskforce.

“Vaccines are strongly encouraged as the best way for individuals to stay protected against contracting COVID-19 or becoming seriously ill even if testing positive for the Delta variant,” Clark said.

Along with getting vaccinated, students and employees are asked to use the #CampusClear daily health screening app.

To keep The Woods community safe, Clark said, masks are being required by everyone regardless of vaccination status. This includes in classrooms, hallways and the Barbara Doherty Dining Center while waiting in line.

“The SMWC COVID-19 Taskforce asks that we each follow the increased protocols so that our community may be safe through the current surge and continue operations in-person and face-to-face classes,” Clark said.

Students and employees are still encouraged to have class normally and plan social activities following the protocols of masking, physically distancing or holding the event outdoors.

The vaccine, fully approved by the FDA for individuals 12 years of age and older, will be administered weekly on Wednesdays through an appointment with the Health Services Clinic.

There is no cost for the vaccine.
