Is everyone required to attend?
Each student new to The Woods, freshman and transfer, is required to attend orientation. The Woods’ orientation program is designed to give you the opportunity to meet other new students and your resident assistant (RA), learn about SMWC traditions, experience campus life, ask questions and have fun before starting classes.
Should my parents and family come with me for orientation weekend?
Your parents and family are welcome to attend orientation on Move-In Day, which is the first day of the orientation weekend. There will be a parent orientation meeting and parent social on the first day where they will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet some of the staff at SMWC. Parents and family should be prepared to leave campus at the end of the afternoon session as the student-focused portion of orientation begins.
I have a job off-campus. Will I be able to work during orientation weekend?
While we understand the importance of work given today’s living expenses, we do ask that you ask your employer not to schedule you for work during orientation weekend.
I am a commuter student. Will I be able to stay on campus during orientation weekend?
Yes. Orientation weekend is a special time for all new students to learn about and be introduced to SMWC. It is best if all students stay on campus as many activities are in the evening. A room will be provided for all commuter students free of charge for the weekend.
What if I forget something that I need on Move-In Day?
The first day of orientation is Move-In Day. The schedule has built-in time for you, your parents and family to run errands to get items you may have left behind or determine that you need to purchase.
Can my parents and family eat with me on Move-In Day on campus?
Lunch will be provided free of charge to all students as well as two tickets for parents or family. Additional tickets may be purchased at lunch.
Where do I park for Move-In Day?
On Move-In Day, you and your parents and family should enter the main gates of the College and from there, you will be directed to an unloading zone where orientation leaders will guide you. You will need to check in at the main lobby of Le Fer Hall in order to get your room key and new student packet. After unloading you will be directed to park behind Hulman Hall.
Can I bring my own car to college?
Yes. All students are allowed to bring a car to campus. All cars must be registered and parked in the student lot, behind Hulman Hall.
We are coming from out of town. Can my parents and family stay on campus?
Yes. The College has rooms available for rent at the Goodwin Guest House on campus and there are a number of hotels in Terre Haute which are within 10 minutes of campus.
If I have other questions, who do I call?
