Mannah Mace has big dreams and she is motivated to achieve them.

An aspiring international business lawyer, the sophomore business administration major credits the friendly atmosphere at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College for a smooth transition to college life, the first step to reaching her goals. “Everybody made me feel right at home here at The Woods. They learn your name. They really welcome you into the family,” she said.

The same atmosphere created a conducive learning environment for Mace, who gained useful skills only within months of starting at the college: independence, time management, goal-setting and critical thinking skills.

Born and raised in Brazil, Indiana, approximately 25 miles away from SMWC, Mace said she had the option of commuting to campus, but she decided to live here in order to gain the full college experience. She continues to get quality education from small class sizes, one-on-one time with professors and an active student life.

During her freshman year, she embraced the opportunities presented to her on campus: She served as student senate representative of her class, played soccer for the College team and completed in a national competition as a member of the Ethics Bowl team. She also holds two on-campus jobs.

“I love it,” she said of campus life. “I have made so many good friends. The students have different backgrounds and hobbies but we all have one common interest: We love The Woods.”

Intelligent and talented, Mace is a recipient of a full tuition scholarship through SMWC’s prestigious Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholarship. After graduating from Northview High School in 2015, she studied abroad for a year. She is thankful that the College held her scholarship and acceptance for a year so she can gain the international experience. “This school really worked with me to make sure I can follow my dreams,” she said.
