Week One Camps – June 18-22, 2018

Today’s Women in STEM Tomorrow (TWIST) is an exciting, hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for girls in 6th – 8th grades. The TWIST summer camp is a fun-filled week of indoor and outdoor science adventures! Explore a natural habitat and get up close and personal with some of the native residents who share our big backyard; uncover the boundless possibilities of the digital world; discover the power of electricity and other sources of energy; and test your wits against the tallest trees in The Woods.

This fun, five day camp will be packed with activities, field trips and special guests, with special information for girls who are interested in STEM careers. You won’t want to miss TWIST!

Camp Information:

9:00 am – 4:00 pm  (8:45 arrival, 4:15 pm pickup)
Open to girls starting 6th – 8th grade as of September 2018

Equestrian Camp for Beginners

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 2-10
Learn all about horses including safe practices when handling horses as well as how to bridle and halter correctly, lead, ride, groom and care for a horse. Horses are provided for this beginner equestrian camp.

Music Theatre

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 8-12
Music Theatre will be a five day camp focusing on how to audition for and be in a Broadway Musical. The camp will be held on the SMWC theatre department stage and will teach acting, singing and dancing.  There will be a final performance at the end of the week featuring solos and group numbers learned throughout the week. Students will need to complete a questionnaire prior to attending, and memorization work will be expected to be done during non-camp hours.

Week Two Camps – June 25-29, 2018

Equestrian Camp for Intermediate Riders

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 3-12
Building from the beginner equine camp, campers will work on more advanced techniques and form. They will need to know how to saddle and mount the horse without assistance as well as walk, trot and canter.

Equestrian Camp for Advanced Riders

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 3-12
Receive one-on-one instruction in specific areas of interest, trouble shoot areas for improvement, get ready for show season, learn a number of different aspects of the equine industry and learn the importance of form to function for horse owners. Campers must bring their own horse for this advanced rider camp.

Cost: $300.00

The Oakley Academy – Environmental Science Camp

Open to girls and boys entering grades 6-9 as of September, 2018
The Oakley Academy will be a five day camp emphasizing ecology and the environment. The focus will be on our own Lake Le Fer and its habitat restoration with outdoor fieldwork and hands-on activities that include identifying common local species, addressing habitat and biological diversity, and testing soil and water quality. Enjoy traditional camp activities on the beautiful campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
