Week One Camps – June 17-21, 2019

Equestrian Camp for Beginners

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 2-10
Learn all about horses including safe practices when handling horses as well as how to bridle and halter correctly, lead, ride, groom and care for a horse. Horses are provided for this beginner equestrian camp.

Adventure Camp at SMWC – Explore the campus of Saint Mary-of-the Woods College through science

Adventure Camp at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is open for boys and girls entering grades 6-9 as of September 2019. Join us as we explore ecosystems, interact with plants and animals, assess habitat restoration and biodiversity, test soil and water quality, engage in environmental fieldwork, and document nature through digital photography. This immersive, hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), with an emphasis in ecology and environmental science, will be a fun-filled week of both indoor and outdoor science adventures! Feel free to bring your phone or digital camera to take photos!

Learn all about bats and their conservation through hands-on interaction and behavior simulation.
Wednesday, June 19
9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Wild Edibles

Location: Hayes Auditorium
What can you eat that’s growing in the woods? What’s growing there that you shouldn’t eat? Join us on a hike for answers and examples.
Thursday, June 20
12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Birds of Prey
Presenter: Leslie Grow
Location: Hayes Auditorium
Interact with raptors such as hawks, owls, falcons, and more to learn about their behavior, care, and rehabilitation.

Week Two Camps – June 24-28, 2019

Equestrian Camp for Intermediate Riders

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 3-12
Building from the beginner equine camp, campers will work on more advanced techniques and form. You will need to know how to saddle and mount the horse without assistance as well as walk, trot and canter.

Equestrian Camp for Advanced Riders

Day camp for girls and boys entering grades 3-12
Receive one-on-one instruction in specific areas of interest, trouble shoot areas for improvement, get ready for show season, learn a number of different aspects of the equine industry and learn the importance of form to function for horse owners. Campers must bring their own horse for this advanced rider camp.
