Wine & Design at The Woods

News | 01.29.2015

Professional artist Becky Hochhalter brings one of her popular Arte è Vino events to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) as one of the College’s 175th anniversary events.

SMWC will host Wine & Design on February 21, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the LeFer Hall Ballroom. Hochhalter will instruct participants on how to create a beautiful luminary sculpture using clay and wine bottles. Artistic juices will flow, as everyone will sculpt a unique piece of art. The $35 fee per person includes desserts and the materials needed to create one luminary sculpture. A cash bar will be available.

Hochhalter works in digital drawing, painting and illustration, traditional oil and acrylic painting and fine detailed pencil drawings. Most recently she creates “natural abstracts” by combining her nature photography with acrylic and metal elements to create unique art pieces.

For over 27 years, Hochhalter has worked in art related fields including advertising and computer graphics. Her graphic design work has been printed for public events and in public media, and her artwork has been displayed at the Swope Art Museum, Clabber Girl Museum Gallery, Heinl’s Garden Studio and the Raven Gallery in Terre Haute, Ind., The Low Road Gallery in Greencastle, Ind., Gaslight Art Colony in Marshall, Ill., and the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago, Ill.

Hochhalter’s work is also on display at area businesses including painted fiberglass sculptures on permanent display at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Terre Haute and four large-scale oil paintings that were installed in December 2011 at Louise’s Cafe at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Her most notable work includes eleven commissioned large-scale photography pieces on permanent display at the new UAP Medical Office Building on the campus of Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
