Legacy. It can have several meanings. For the family of Ben Myers ’20, it’s all about remembering an incredible young man who was a great scholar and athlete. For the second year, Ben’s family organized a golf scramble, the Ben Myers Classic, in Terre Haute, where more than 30 teams gathered to remember Ben and the life he lived after his passing in January 2024.

During his time as a student at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), Ben was a member of the two-time USCAA National Champion golf team, and he personally earned USCAA All-American honors and Academic All-American honors in 2018-19. Ben led by example and was a well-rounded student-athlete.
The family’s effort and community support this year raised $8,869.98, contributing to the Ben Myers ’20 Memorial Scholarship at SMWC, established by Ben’s family. The scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete on the SMWC men’s or women’s golf team, who will receive a $2,500 scholarship towards their tuition. “We are very grateful to Ben’s family for establishing this scholarship and the impact it will have on future Woods students, while continuing Ben’s legacy at The Woods,” said Elizabeth “Izzy” Reel ’21, ’25MLD, advancement officer at SMWC.
