Marie Louise Andrews

Marie Louise Andrews, born Oct. 31, 1849, was an American author and editor from Indiana. She was a student at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and at Hungerford Collegiate Institute in Adams, N.Y.

She was a founder of the Western Association of Writers and served as its secretary from its founding until June 1888, when she retired. She wrote both verse and prose, but her work was never published in book form and little of it has been preserved.

While working as an editor at the Indianapolis Herald, Andrews and other contributors to the paper, founded the Western Association of Writers movement, discussing the idea of a writers’ association publicly through the Herald’s columns. Andrews served as its secretary from its organization until she retired in June of 1888.

Andrews died at Connersville on Feb. 7, 1891.
