Have you ever considered yourself lucky? Perhaps it was hearing a phrase of “it’s your lucky day,” finding a penny face up in a parking lot or perhaps you won a contest. Eliyahu Goldratt once said, “Good luck is when opportunity meets preparation, while bad luck is when lack of preparation meets reality.” Certainly, every person can think of a time when they weren’t prepared, but when you are and you reach a goal, it’s hard not to have a feeling of fulfillment – to feel lucky or fortunate.

In my own personal experience, I find myself reflecting and often feeling both lucky and blessed to have so many amazing people in my life, many whom I went to school with and now work with at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Had there not been preparation and planning for the future years of SMWC, I and my classmates wouldn’t have gotten the experience we did.

That is why I continue to be so grateful to all those who support Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Whether it be through time, treasure, talent or connection, your unwavering support continues our mission and Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s legacy. How lucky we are to be a part of The Woods family, together!

Did you miss out on the excitement of Woods Giving Day? You can still impact SMWC students and help us reach our $3 million Woods Fund goal by June 30, 2026.
