Sculpture, photography, acrylic paint, graphic design – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) senior graphic design major, Elizabeth DeMoss, has done it all. She introduced her designs to the public during an opening reception at the SMWC Art Gallery on March 19, 2014.
The exhibition, which will be on display through April 4, 2014, features DeMoss’ work from a multitude of mediums. DeMoss, of Martinsville, Ind., states her inspiration not only came from her environment but also from her admiration of famous pieces.
“I especially like Salvador Dali and Edward Hopper,” said DeMoss. “Although they are both painters, one creates more realistic pieces while the other is more whimsical. Their paintings are amazing.”
DeMoss will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in Art & Design. After graduating, her goal is to further her education toward a career in interior decorating and design.
“Elizabeth’s exhibit shows her interest, as well as her ability, in a variety of mediums, including graphic design, photography, painting and ceramics. It is the perfect example of the blending of skills that the Art & Design major offers,” states Rebecca Andrews, chair of the department of Text & Image at SMWC. “Elizabeth will be graduating from SMWC with the ability to conceptualize and then make her ideas a reality in the medium that is most appropriate.”
The SMWC Art Gallery is located in Hulman Hall, room 130. Admission is free and open to the public. Regular Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, contact Rebecca Andrews by phone at 812-535-5141 or by email at .
