Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College freshman basketball player Ja’Breena Gardner was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Women’s Division I Player of the Week, the national office announced on Tuesday, Feb 4.
Last week, Gardner led the Pomeroys in scoring in their 83-24 victory over USCAA member Andrews University. In that game, Gardner scored a game-high 16 points on 50% shooting from the field. She also tallied a game-high 9 steals, 8 assists, and 1 block. Furthermore, she is currently leading the USCAA Women’s Division I in steals with 4.6 per game while averaging 22.2 minutes per game.
Currently in 19 games played, Gardner leads the Pomeroys in total points scored (278), points per game (14.5), assists (50), and steals (84).
The Indianapolis, Ind. native has earned this honor for the first time in her career.
