Name: Susan Edwards
Major: Nursing
Hometown: Shelburn, Indiana
1. Why did you choose SMWC?
I chose SMWC because of its reputation and its willingness to work with me. I am a non-traditional student, returning to college after retiring from teaching, and SMWC was more than willing to accept many of my previous credits.
2. Why did you choose your major?
I don’t believe that I chose Nursing. I prayed and prayed on the decision, and I was led to pursue this career. I have a helping heart and truly feel that this is where I am supposed to be and what I am supposed to be doing.
3. What is your favorite place on campus?
My happy place on campus is Hayes Auditorium in Hulman Hall. This is the room where it happens – where most of my on-campus learning has taken place. Additionally, I love to walk the grounds, visit the horses and cross the bridge. Every time I turn onto The Avenue, I am filled with peace and comfort.
4. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
My favorite memory is my very first First Monday, when I met the people who would become my best friends in the cohort and met instructors and Dr. Miller in Hayes Auditorium that afternoon. They set the expectations for the next three years, and it has been nothing short of the most rigorous and rewarding learning experience of my life.
5. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
I will contribute to the scholarship fund, for sure, and I would like to be a part of the senior nursing disaster simulation in some way. I also plan to offer tutoring and study help to the Nursing students.
